The Story Behind Little Yellow Cloud
Posted on July 23 2020
First of all, thank you to all the mothers who showed endless love to our Little Yellow Cloud collection! Everyone has been so supportive and welcoming and I always feel happy to see pictures of the mothers and children in our clothes.
Today, I want to share a little bit about Little Yellow Cloud.
I am an individual who has always loved fashion. The colours, prints, feel and style of a garment were all things that were very important to me when I was choosing my next little staple piece to join my wardrobe. When I became a mum, I shopped the exact same way for my children. I would look for unique timeless pieces that I adored and would buy them for my boys thinking that both would eventually wear them, but I soon realised that not all fashion is made equal and that not all children are the same.
As a young child, my eldest was extremely sensitive to certain textures and would react to synthetic fibres, clothing tags, seams and bulky cuffs. This is when we discovered organic cotton. I found that garments purchased for him made out of organic cotton retained that soft feeling after they were washed, and these were the garments that he wanted to wear over and over again. So most of his wardrobe slowly become more and more organic cotton. It was at this point I wanted to know why? What was it about organic cotton that made it his preference?
After much research I found that unlike synthetic fibres, organic cotton was free from harsh chemicals, softer, durable, and hypoallergenic making it perfect for sensitive young skin. These dangerous chemicals are pesticides that come from cotton farming which cause allergies or skin problems especially to babies and children as they are still growing. In fact, cotton is also the most polluting textile fibre in the world because of the high consumption of energy and water in the production process!
As a mother, our babies and children are the most precious things in our lives. We want them to be safe and happy. After searching high and low for organic cotton clothing for my child, I could only find very few options in Australia unless it was handmade.
I decided that I want to do something about it. I want to make a clothing brand that is not only stylish, but also ensures the safety and comfort of our growing children more common. Hence, Little Yellow Cloud was launched. A clothing brand designed in Melbourne and made ethically using GOTS certified organic cotton, without bulky cuffs, scratchy tags or itchy seams for all children, but especially for those with sensitive skin.
So, to all mothers, you can be assured that Little Yellow Cloud priotirises our children's skin safety first more than anything else. Best of all, our cotton is GOTS certified. If you want to know what's the difference between certified organic cotton and uncertified organic cotton, we'll talk more about it in our next blog! (you wouldn't want to miss it)
